Designing a cosmogramme

Esplorare, disegnare, scolpire, sentire. Creare un Cosmogramma comporta mettere in gioco più parti di noi e prestare un'attenzione speciale all'ambiente che ci circonda.

Exploring, drawing, carving, experiencing. Creating a Cosmogramme is about engaging different parts of ourselves and giving one's full attention to our environment.

Dopo il primo giorno di visita "guidata" e un contatto con il posto, Hoathly Hill si è dischiusa come un fiore e ciascuno di noi si è avventurato in una esplorazione personale dell'area alla ricerca di un luogo speciale per sé, le cui caratteristiche risuonassero particolarmente per lui/lei. A me è accaduto con la zona dello stagno. Istintivamente, sono stato attratto qui dalla selvatichezza del luogo, dalla sua aria un po' appartata e tuttavia per nulla inospitale.

After spending our first day on a "guided" tour of the place and getting in touch with it, Hoathly Hill opened up like a flower for us and we ventured in a personal exploration of the grounds in search for a spot especially meaningful for each one of us. This spot happened to be the pond area for me, I was drawn here instictively by a certain wilderness and a secluded feel about the place though not inhospitable in any way.

A trascorrerci un po' di tempo, ho intuito il disegno originale delle piantumazioni e il modo in cui nel tempo sono state inglobate dalle specie spontanee.

After spending some time there, the original planting design became clear and the way, in time, wild species blended in with the more ornamental ones.

Il quadro finale che ne esce è quel misto di selvatico e ornamentale, di curato e lasciato a se stesso che fa di un giardino quel luogo magico in cui l'umano si incontra con gli elementi per creare qualcosa che prima non c'era... qualcosa che presto scomparirebbe se l'umano uscisse di scena.

The resulting picture is that combination of wild and tame, of ornamental and spontaneous that makes a garden such a magical place where the human factor meets the elements and co-creates with them something that wasn't there before... something that would soon disappear if the human element left the scene.

Aprendomi alle sensazioni che il luogo suscitava in me, hanno cominciato a delinearsi forme e figure nell'intrico di foglie e rami. E un tema. Le energie assurgenti e quelle che si piegano, tutte fluttuanti. Che cos'è la volontà? e come possiamo esercitarla senza diventare prepotenti?

Opening myself up to the impressions this place evoked inside of me, forms and figures began to emerge within the intricacies of branches and leaves. And a theme. The up-surging and the bending energies, all of them flowing. What is will? and how do we exercise our will without becoming domeneering?
