The weeds we had cast outside of our gardens some fifty years ago, looking for some kind of uniform serenity, are showing up again right at the front gate in all their vibrant and non-chalant beauty. At this time of the year, their spikes and capsules ripe, they look golden and elegant, satisfied with their accoplished task.

There was no use in trying to get rid of them with all kinds of efforts, casting them out of our sight in order to forget that our gardens - even the very artificial looking ones that go with suburban houses and aspire to be all tidy and urban - have their roots in the countryside, in meadows, and in those uncertain areas where meadows end and woods start.

They came back, triumphant with their shades of gold and brown, and smiling back to us with their unique way of catching and reflecting the light of the sun. It seems they're telling us: do not bother about us anymore, leave us alone in a corner of the garden and we will not fail to delight you with the show of our colours, the elegance of our stance, our fragrance from a distant past and our songs in the wind...

These pictures were taken in the town of London, in the public garden of Bonnington Sq. This is another example of co-gardening and the story of a garden that was born because of local people wanting it and now attending to it.
