designing a cosmogramme is surely one way of getting in touch with our more intuitive core. it's a process of increasing awareness of our surroundings and inner soulscape. it can be a revealing and surprising experience.

elaborare un cosmogramma è sicuramente un modo per entrare in contatto con una parte nucleare e più intuitiva di noi stessi/e. è un processo di approfondimento nella presa di consapevolezza del paesaggio intorno e dentro di noi. si tratta di un'esperienza sorprendente e rivelatrice.

during Marko Pogacnik's workshop in London "Cosmogrammes - Communicating with Other Dimensions of Life" we explored different sites linked with river Thames around Hammersmith area to the West and Greenwich to the East.

durante il seminario di Marko Pogacnik a Londra abbiamo esplorato diversi luoghi della città correlati al fiume Tamigi intorno alla zona di Hammersmith a ovest e a Greenwich a est.














in Marko's own words river Thames is the spine or backbone of London landscape. it's like a cosmic gesture within the town balancing the opposites within its organism.

per dirla con le parole di Marko il fiume Tamigi è la spina dorsale o l'asse portante del paesaggio di Londra. è un gesto cosmico dentro alla città con la funzione di bilanciare gli opposti all'interno del suo organismo.














on the last day of our workshop we came back to the river and waited still for a while before setting to create the cosmogrammes we had been designing for the occasion.

l'ultimo giorno del seminario siamo tornati sul fiume e ci siamo messi in ascolto prima di realizzare i cosmogrammi che abbiamo elaborato appositamente per questa occasione.

each of us chose one of the many places we had been exploring and whose quality we experienced, and designed a cosmogramme to suit with the Spirit of the place and help awakening and balancing its vital energies.

ognuno di noi ha scelto uno dei diversi posti che abbiamo esplorato e di cui abbiamo sperimentato le qualità, e realizzato un cosmogramma per trovarsi con lo Spirito del luogo e aiutarlo a risvegliare e bilanciare le sue energie vitali.












my choice went to an allé of plane trees in Bishop's Park. at this point the water energies of the river turn into fire energies and here we enacted the dragon's walk to facilitate this process of the shifting of one kind of energy into the other.

la mia scelta è andata a un viale di platani a Bishop's Park. in corrispondenza di questo punto le energie d'acqua del fiume si trasformano in energie di fuoco e qui abbiamo praticato la camminata del drago per facilitare questo processo di salto da un tipo di energia all'altro.

when it came to designing my cosmogramme i went back to the experience of walking water and fire and my hand naturally drew the overlapping of these energies and the sinuous line of the river course.

quando si è trattato di disegnare il cosmogramma sono tornato con l'esperienza alla camminata di acqua e di fuoco e la mia mano ha disegnato naturalmente questo sovrapporsi delle energie e la linea sinuosa del corso del fiume.

it was only afterwards, when i downloaded my pictures, that i realized the cosmogramme design matches quite strikingly with the beautiful pattern drawn by the branches above our heads at the end of the allé.

è stato solo dopo, quando ho visto le foto, come il disegno del cosmogramma si sposa sorprendentemente bene con quello, bellissimo, dei rami sopra le nostre teste alla fine del viale di platani.

the workshop went on and ended with the actual composition of some of the cosmogrammes on the shore of the river. the whole experience has been one of beauty and unity with the group and the landscape. i wish to say thanks to Marko and Marion, Lizzie and Sabine at Earth Energy Network.

a universal language

Marko Pogačnik held a workshop in London this year organized by the Earth Energy Network

Marko's work as an artist, writer and body-worker is based on the possibility for human beings to communicate with other dimensions of life. In his own words "it is possible that the crisis we are nowadays undergoing is a consequence and a mirror of the crisis of our language. We are not capable anymore to speak a universal language that could communicate with beings of different kinds from our own such as birds, animals, flowers, plants, rocks, seashells, clouds...

Such a language is made of other things than words. In fact it can be made of sounds, gestures, signs capable of affecting surrounding energies. Such a language is made for those beings who are not using words but can perceive the energetic vibrations starting from other organisms. This is why we talk about a universal language.

There are some rules we must learn underlying this language that is constantly being spoken around and among us. There is a multitude of ways in which this language can be spoken: in fact sounds, music, drawings, sculptures, forms of trees, rocks and clouds, are all words to this evolving language.

Symbols, mantras, mudras are other communicating tools of this language. These are all devices imbued with intentional qualities. In our Western culture, we have lost our knowledge of this kind of language behind our backs, we do not consider it anymore, we do not bring it to our consciousness even when it happens, and it happens even if we are not aware of it".

With this in mind we started our journey through the multifaceted reality of London urban landscape, visiting a variety of places mostly related to the river Thames.

Il lvoro di Marko come artista, scrittore e formatore è basato sulla possibilità per noi esseri umani di comunicare con altre dimensioni della vita. Per dirla con parole sue "è possibile che la crisi che stiamo attraversando di questi tempi sia una conseguenza e un segnale della crisi della nostra lingua. Non siamo più in grado di parlare una lingua universale che possa comunicare con altri esseri che noi uman* come gli uccelli, gli animali, i fiori, le piante, i sassi, le conchiglie, le nuvole...

Questa lingua è fatta di altro che non solo parole. Infatti può essere costituita da suoni, gesti, segni capaci di influenzare le energie circostanti. Questa lingua è fatta per tutti quegli esseri che non usano le parole ma possono percepire le vibrazione energetiche che lanciate da altri organismi. E' per questo che paliamo di un linguaggio univerale.

Ci sono alcune regole che dobbiamo imparare che sottendono questo linguaggio che continuament viene ustato intorno a noi e fra di noi. Ci sono un sacco di modi in cui questo linguaggio può essere parlato: infatti suoni, musica, disegni, sculture, forme di alberi, rocce e nuvole sono altrettante parole attraverso cui questa lingua in costante evoluzione si esprime.

Simboli, mantras, mudras sono altri mezzi di espressione di questa lingua. Si tratta sempre di strumenti per la comunicazione impregnati di un preciso intento. Nella cutlura occidentale, ci siamo lasciati alle spalle la conoscenza di questo tipo di linguaggio, non lo consideriamo più, non ci rendiamo più conto nemmeno quando si verifica, e si verifica anche quando non ne siamo consapevoli".

Con queste premesse abbiamo iniziato la nostra esplorazione della sfaccettata realtà multidimensionale del paesaggio urbano di Londra, visitando diversi luoghi connessi nella maggioranza dei casi al fiume Tamigi.

getting in touch with the river

quando ho iniziato questo blog ritenevo che soltanto gli episodi migliori, le esperienze più significative in senso positivo vi avrebbero trovato posto. ora so che non sarà così. ci sono delle zone d'ombra che è necessario attraversare.

when i first launched this blog i was sure that only the best things, the most reassuring experiences would make their way here. now i know it is not so. there are dark areas that i need to go through.

il 23 febbraio scorso... una telefonata, qualcuno mi informa che il fiume Lambro è stato invaso da un'ondata di idrocarburi che apparentemente non dovevano neppure esistere...

last February, 23rd... a phone call, someone told me that a wave of petrol and oil flowed into river Lambro... we would later learn that this oil and petrol was supposedly... inexistent...

sappiamo tutti che il corso del fiume Lambro è terribilmente inquinato già non appena superate la prima valle che attraversa per diventarlo poi mortalmente una volta che si è lasciato alle spalle la ricca Brianza. questa non è una novità. ma perché preferiamo non pensarci? perché fare finta di niente?

we all know that the river Lambro is awfully polluted right a few miles below its spring until it gets mortally so after collecting all kinds of waste materials from the industrial sites of the rich Brianza. this is no news. so why do we choose not think about it? why do we feign surprised?

abbiamo spremuto i nostri monti, le nostre valli, i nostri fiumi, la nostra pianura come se loro non contassero più nulla, e pensare che loro sono così generosi con noi...

we've been exploiting our hills, our valleys, our rivers, our fertile land as if they meant nothing, and yet they are being so generous towards us...

la settimana scorsa siamo andati a trovare il fiume. siamo andati a trovarlo come si fa con un vecchio amico o un parente che non vediamo da un pezzo e sappiamo ammalato.

last week we went to visit the river. we went to pay a visit there as we do with an old friend or a relative we haven't seen in a while and have heard of being ill.

siamo andati a trovarlo a Monza praticamente all'altezza dove è avventuto l'avvelenamento di un mese fa. c'era qualcosa di spettrale nell'aria oltre all'odore acre che emana dal fiume come di detersivo...

we went to visit the river in Monza more or less where the poisoning took place one month ago. something eery struck us in the air as well as a terrible smell coming from the river as of detergents...

questo è il punto.

this is the spot.

che cosa fai quando hai di fronte la morte? un paziente, un parente lontano, che è sul punto di morire? respiri profondo e cerchi un centro dentro di te dove trovare conforto, per poterlo offrire a tua volta.

what do you do when confronted with death? with a patient, a distant relative, that looks deadly sick? you take a deep breath, you centre yourself in a place where some comfort can be found and offered.

questo è quanto abbiamo fatto.

that's what we did.

e come te ne vieni via da un parente in quelle condizioni? vuoi credere che a qualcosa è servito... che quel mezzo sorriso, quella serenità appena intravvista nel suo sguardo erano il suo modo per dirti grazie.

and how do you say goodbye to someone in such a state? you want to believe that your visit meant something... that half smile, that fleeting serenity in its eyes... that was its way to say thanks...

così ci siamo compiaciuti nel vedere che una coppia di uccellini è stata tutto il tempo con noi, volando e inseguendosi sopra le nostre teste, mentre praticavamo la nostra piccola cerimonia di guarigione, ringraziamento, riconoscimento e saluto del fiume.

and so we rejoiced when we noticed that a couple of birds stayed with us, flying and chasing each other over our heads, throughout our little cerimony of healing, acknowledging, thanksgiving and greeting of the river.

e quando ce ne siamo andati il cielo ci ha sorriso.

and when we left the sky smiled unto us.
